Christian Louboutin has been busy branching out lately.  We’ve already seen his collection of handbags with red sole clasps and now Louboutin is dabbling in the champagne business.  In October, Christian Louboutin will launched his own champagne with champagne house Piper Heidsieck.  The limited edition “Le Rituel” box set is meant to revive an old ritual in the 1880s of drinking from the shoe of a woman. The crystal stiletto designed by Christian Louboutin will carry the signature red sole and is included in this limited edition gift box set.

No word on pricing, but it will be sold through Colette.

Earlier this year, André Leon Talley of Vogue was heard remarking that he was “over the mania of the high, high heel”.  On the Milan Spring 2010 runways, it’s really unapparent that designers took André’s word to heart.  The shoes were still soaring and high, abetted by one and two inch platforms.

Strappy Fendi Sandals for Spring 2010: My favorite part of these wraparound Fendi sandals were the rose-hued clear platform.

Gucci Spring 2010 Heels: Futuristic, sexy bondage heels appeared to be the theme on Gucci’s runway.

Versace Spring 2010 Fantasy Land Shoes: Donatella Versace’s Spring Collection was said to be inspired by the upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie from Tim Burton. This must explain the medley of playful polka dot, geometric, and pastel prints.

Gwyneth Paltrow went to an Adolfo Dominguez fashion show in Madrid earlier this month. I couldn’t find a good photo of her standing up to see the dress lines, but she is wearing inky blue suede Miu Miu platform pumps with blue tights.  I really like that look.  It is a refreshing change from all black.

The Miu Miu shoes are $675 at Bergdorf Goodman. Saks also carries them in black for the same price.  Gorgeous.

This season, it seems like the more studs the better! If you take a look, every designer out there has presented his or her interpretation of what the perfect studded handbag for the season should look like, and choosing ‘the one’ can be a harder task than anticipated. Attention Bag Bliss readers! I regret to inform you that Earth Overshoot Day keeps arriving earlier and earlier with each passing year. This year it landed just this last Friday, on September 25th. But wait… what exactly is Earth Overshoot Day? And why should we even care? Well, one way to think about it is to say nature has a budget. Our planet can only produce a certain amount of resources and absorb a certain amount of waste in a given time frame. And with the ever increasing demand of human consumption, resources are now being used at a rate faster than the Earth can regenerate them and wastes are being produced at a rate faster than the Earth can absorb them. At these current rates, we would actually need 1.4 planets in order to be operating in a sustainable fashion. The word “overshoot” refers to the ecological debt that we keep incurring with each passing year. This is something that everyone should be concerned with because we cannot keep going on like this forever. At some point, we will become bankrupt.

Now I know that we don’t tend to think about these things in our day to day lives. Especially when we are living in a world that revolves around consuming. But we can all make a difference by making some simple changes. And I thought maybe it would be fun, since this is a handbag blog, to point out some eco-friendly handbags that are currently available.
