As the Olympic Games near the finish line, the hoopla in Vancouver has reached Mardi Gras-rivaling proportions. I do happen to be staying next door to the Irish House, which is possibly the biggest party in town, so I can attest that the decibel levels increase nightly—to the point where, should Canada beat the US at hockey today, the entire city might just detonate into one colossal firework of pure joy. Of course, none of this made it easy to awaken at 5am for the journey to Whistler yesterday, but my fatigue quickly dissipated once I boarded the Rocky Mountaineer glass-ceiling train, which is possibly the most civilized mode of travel on the planet. As we chugged past dramatic seascapes, looming cliffs, and forests thick with moss-covered pine trees, we were treated to a white-china breakfast of Canadian Maple Syrup pancakes and beer-infused boar bacon. I felt like I was on the Orient Express, only no one got murdered, and I was wearing a snowsuit. From Whistler, it’s a quick bus ride and chairlift up to Whistler Creek, where the Men’s Slalom event was in full swing. We watched in silent, shivery awe as the skiers cut through the mist with awesome demonstrations of thigh-strength derring-do, and as the Italian contingent in the crowd went ballistic as Giuliano Razzoli won the first Gold Medal for Italy in the 2010 Olympics.

I kept reading about the Nicholas Kirkwood shoes for Rodarte shown in New York being ultra high and made to look like melted candle wax. Here is the runway look.
I didn’t understand what they were talking about, because this is what I found.

THEN I found these photos. NOW I understand. Here is a close up of the shoes

These have Nicholas Kirkwood’s signature all over them.

Admittedly, I’m a bit of an Anthropologie addict. I just love everything in the store! For the last week I’ve been on California’s Central Coast for work and in my off hours I had the pleasure of visiting my favorite Anthropologie location at the Carmel Plaza! It wouldn’t be totally true to call the Carmel Plaza a “mall” it’s more of a luxurious and relaxing outdoor hangout surrounded by all of my favorite stores! The Anthropologie store is particularly impressive! It is huge, has an outdoor patio, has everything sold by Anthropologie, and always has the best sale section (dresses for $10 – seriously!)
Choosing my favorite Anthropologie items is always difficult. So after a lot of thinking and admiring, here are the shoes that will carry me into spring courtesy of my favorite store!

White Sands wedges for $365.

Solar Knots sandals for $238.

Traced Archway wedges for $178.

Cut and Pace flats for $225.

Far from the open-fronted tops and silk hot pants we saw for Spring, Prada’s Fall 2010 collection was heavy, full, and ultimately classic. The fifties and early-sixties influences were obvious to say the least: cat’s eye glasses, beehives, and hourglass silhouettes will have fans of AMC’s Mad Men enthralled.
Garnering just as much attention than the clothes themselves were Miuccia’s models. She brought out girls most often reserved for the Victoria’s Secret catwalk; amoung them Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, and Alessandra Ambrosio (and, to be honest, we can’t recall the last time we saw Alessandra on a runway in anything more than a bra.)

For anyone that watched the Strawberry Shortcake cartoon back in the 80’s you’ll understand what I mean when I say that this editorial is about as close as you can get to a modern day high-end fashion revamp. The outfits fill the senses with their sweetly mismatched prints and bold striped tights; accompanied by names like “Blueberry Muffin”, “Raspberry Tart”, and “Lemon Meringue”.
Addison Gill looks adorable in an understated take on the bow headband trend – a blue ribbon tied in a bow, matched to the rich blueberry coloured stripe leggings.

Hunter wellingtons mightn’t reach de jour peak until the Glastonbury festival rolls around in June again, yet they’re largely missing from country-chic street style pictures for the rest of the year. No more. Simplistic, but oh-so-Home-Counties.

Clark Kent is to Superman, what thigh high splits are to Versace: you can’t have one without the other. So it seems strange to leave Versace’s Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2010 collection with so few thigh high splits having made an impression. In fact, if anything from this collection does make an impression it is its futuristic infusion; an infusion which, replete with everything from metallic to fringed mini-dresses, doesn’t feel too dissimilar from the future that Barberella imagined for us all those years ago. While Versace’s Autumn 2010 collection isn’t all futuristic, it is all decidedly modern.
